MELANIE in her jim-jams certainly stopped passers by in their tracks as she hit the sack in Waterstone's window to draw attention to Bedtime Reading Week.

Bookseller Melanie wants to encourage folk young and old to get to bed that little bit earlier to read their favourite bedtime tales.

"I sat in bed in the front window reading all day - it was fun and passers by really enjoyed it too. They laughed and said 'hello' - my living window display certainly did the trick."

Melanie also pointed out the importance of reading to children, including babies - it's never too early to start apparently.

Up until April 1 Waterstone's book shop in Stratford will be offering a wide choice of bedtime reading for children, with a three for two promotion of 25 books including titles such as The Baby Who Wouldn't Go To Bed, Ten in a Bed and Lullabyhullaballoo.
