OUR goals in a 20 minute spell in the first half sealed Powick's victory in this Worcester Sunday Division Two game.

POWICK 6, CLAINES 2

Both teams were evenly matched for the first 20 minutes and it was Claines who broke the deadlock with a superb strike by Daniel Blake rocketed into the back of the net from a narrow angle on the right.

Within five minutes Powick were awarded a penalty, Bryan Craven was fouled in the box and Phil Skilton made no mistake with the spot kick.

Powick raised their game after this and on the half hour took the lead when Mike Pearson scored a brilliant goal with a half volley running in from the left. They continued to pressure the Claines' defence and within minutes increased their lead, Paul Ruhback provided an inch perfect diagonal pass for Gary Henderson to run onto and place the ball wide of the keeper.

Six minutes later Henderson got his second when he drove his shot through a mass of players after Powick had peppered the Claines goal.

Claines regained some composure in the second half but found it hard to break down the disciplined defence of James Baker, Barry Millar, Dave Jones and Darren Goldingay.

On the hour Powick were awarded a free kick and Nick Pullen poaching on the far post left the keeper flat footed as he cued the ball inside the post to increase the lead to 5-1.

Again Clines rallied and were putting good moves together but by now Powick were cruising and easily dealt with anything thrown at them. With five minutes remaining Claines did get a second goal, Ben Chamberlain appeared to have a shot covered but it was deflected in.

Almost immediately Powick hit back with a powerful header by Bryan Craven from a corner to make the final score 6-2.

Man of the Match was James Baker.
