RANGERS enjoyed their second consecutive 1-0 victory in the Worcester League Saturday Premier Division following last week's victory over local rivals Radar, but this week's performance at Kempsey was considerably different with the level of commitment much better.

KEMPSEY UNITED 0, MALVERN RANGERS 1

Without Marc Kitchener, Mick Lowe and Brendon Watson from last week's team, Rangers brought in Roger Kitchener, Chris Postans and new signing Rob Perrins.

With the playing surface uneven the game was never a classic but it was very keenly contested. It was new signing Rob Perrins who had two excellent opportunities to open the scoring when firstly after 12 minutes a route one long kick forward by Phil Birch saw him clear of the home defence but he shot straight at keeper Dave Robinson. Just two minutes later he was put clear by Lee Brookes but Robinson was able to beat him to the ball and kick clear.

However, just one minute later and Rangers deservedly went ahead. Clive Churchill gained possession, he carried the ball forward and shot, the ball diverted to Chris Davis who brought a parried save from Robinson but Simon Rea was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Just four minutes into the second half and Kempsey should have scored when a long range shot struck the crossbar and from the rebound Beauchamp headed over.

Kempsey had the lion's share of the second half play but the back four in particular Steve Hodges, Mark White, Sean Lynch and Clive Churchill kept a tight grip.

With no further goals Rangers ran out 1-0 winners and therefore exacted some revenge for their 3-2 extra time defeat in the Bayliss Cup a few weeks ago.

Man of the match was Sean Lynch.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Rangers sponsored by the Three Horseshoes, visit Martley for a Premier Division fixture, kick-off 3pm. Players ready to leave Brooklyn Motors at 2pm.
