Kidderminster Choral Society celebrates its 250th concert with a performance of the Mendelssohn oratorio, Elijah, on Saturday, March 24.

The choir will be joined by the Elgar Sinfonia, with Birmingham Cathedral organist Marcus Huxley, under the baton of musical director Geoffrey Weaver.

The soloists will be Elizabeth Macdonald (Soprano), Alison Kettlewell (mezzo-soprano), Stephen Rook (tenor) and Anthony Cunningham (bass).

Elijah is a graphic and exciting retelling of the story of the Old Testament prophet and was first performed at the Birmingham Music Festival in 1846. The work is reminiscent of J S Bach in its arias and chorales, and features big choir numbers that are distinctly in the Victorian choral tradition.

The concert begins at 7.30pm. Tickets start at £7 and admission to the 2pm afternoon rehearsal is £2. Reserved tickets are available on 01299 851223 and unreserved tickets are available from the Council Shop at Kidderminster Library or at the door on the night.
