An errant duck caused the partial demolition of a chimney after losing its balance.
Around 30 ducks live on a lake at the Moat Nursing Home, Leigh Sinton, and during breeding time several of them have built nests on the roof.
Unfortunately, one careless bird set up home too close to a chimney on the cottage extension, and fell down it, settling on a ledge at the base of the stack.
Attempts were made to free the bird by pulling it out from inside the building, but the would-be rescuers faced a problem.
"It was too fat and wouldn't come through," said general manager David Attwood.
The RSPCA were called, and they in turn called the fire brigade, who freed the bird by knocking a hole in the chimney breast.
