6 I REPLY to Councillor Richard Bird's letter, as published in the Evening News on February 26.

Councillor Bird has missed the point of my initiative on a proposed new bridge for Worcester.

Previous bridge projects were fruitless, as there were no money or ideas for funding to make them a reality. Now, I have established that there is a pot of money (as some £20m is needed for the bridge) which can potentially be accessed, through Europe.

That is surely the key starting point for a much-needed bridge. Details of the location of a new bridge could be covered at an appropriate point, although discussions to date seem to suggest that by the viaduct would be one of the many practical locations.

My point is that in order to progress to a stage where locations are discussed, we need funding for the project.

Philip Bradbourne, MEP, can assist Worcester positively in accessing such funds. Any viable route down which we can get assistance in creating a third Worcester bridge (which nobody disputes is much needed) has got to be explored.

RICHARD ADAMS,

Worcester Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.
