AT a joint meeting of the Forthampton & District Royal British Legion Branch and Women's Section, a report of Gloucester-shire's Royal British Legion annual general meeting was given by F Remmer, branch representative.

Various sub committee reports were read out. One of the main ones being the County Services Advisory, one which showed home and hospital visits 2,764, financial assistance 104, rest and care breaks 77, state benefit matters 30, war pensions 72, equipment from mobility scheme 52.

This is not a true reflection of the year's achievements because a lot is not reported. The county field officer's report showed an overall spend in the last year of £147,262 and grants from other charities of £103,605. Cost to the Central Benevolent Fund £33,845.

The address was given by Mr Russell Thompson, head of fundraising. The latest video of the work of the Royal British Legion was shown by D Humphreys, county secretary. The chairman thanked Fred Remmer and introduced Mr Feasey, fundraiser of the National Star Centre College of Further Education, Cheltenham.

The centre is outstanding because it provides residential further education and independence for young people aged 16-25 who have physical disabilities or acquired brain injuries. The talk was very enlightening because you hear about the centre but do not know what good work goes on there.

The main centre is at Ullenwood Manor, Cheltenham. Elizabeth House, London Road, Gloucester, has now been purchased and this will provide accommodation for 27 physically disabled students. After a lot of questions and inquiries the branch chairman, K I B Yeaman, thanked Mr Feasey for his informative talk.
