A MAN who had been on an all-day drinking session was arrested after hurling abuse at police outside his estranged wife's home.

Kevin Bird admitted using threatening behaviour following the incident in Medway Road, Ronkswood, last Friday, February 23.

Kiernan Cunningham, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday, described how Bird, who lives in Woolhope Road, Battenhall, Worcester, was approached by police outside his wife's home.

'Aggressive'

Mr Cunningham said the officers told him to leave, but he swore at them, saying he was waiting to talk to his wife.

"He was asked to leave, but he continued to be aggressive," said Mr Cunningham. "At one point he was seen to clench his fist and go towards one of the officers.

He added that 42-year-old Bird was keeping eye contact with the police and told to calm down, but he would not do so.

"He was warned that CS spray would have to be used, but he wouldn't calm down so the spray was used," he added.

Romance

Joe Kieran, defending, said Bird had married his wife last year after a whirlwind romance, but trouble soon started and she moved back into her previous home with her three grown-up children.

"He was considerably drunk and it is fair to say he had no recollection of the incident," said Mr Kieran.

He added that Bird, who is currently unemployed, had spent most of the day drinking with friends, and that he and his wife were now working on a reconciliation.

Bird was fined £75 and ordered to pay £55 costs.
