SCORES of community projects around Wychavon could benefit from a cash windfall.

The district council is inviting applications from organisations looking for outside funding who are eligible for a special grant.

Last year, it awarded nearly £170,000 to more than 100 groups and has set aside 30 per cent of this year's allocation specifically for projects involving young people.

"If you are a community group with a good idea for a project or are looking for funding to help get a scheme off the ground, a Wychavon Community Grant could help make it happen," said projects officer Cherrie Mansfield.

"We are eager to get applications from youth organisations throughout Wych-avon. A grant might be to set up new youth groups or activities, or to help train leaders and young people who wish to become leaders."

This year, a simplified application form has been produced for grants of £500 less.

The minimum that can applied for is £100, with all applications judged on their merit.

A rule change means previous recipients are no longer barred from making further applications within three years.

To be considered for a grant, projects must be within Wychavon or for the benefit of its residents.

Applications must be from non-profit making organisations and those that have no political affiliation.

If an application is made by a religious group, it must be for a non-religious purpose, for example, community, recreational or leisure.

Application packs will be available from the Civic Centre in Pershore, the council's one-stop shops in Droitwich and Evesham or by calling Steve Rawlings on 01386 565311.
