FOR the benefit of your readers, I would like to point out that the recent "transport exercise" in St John's (Evening News, February 21) does not accurately represent Sainsbury's proposals for Swanpool Walk.

Sainsbury's revised scheme for St John's involves the re-alignment of Bransford Road leading into the junction with Malvern Road and St John's, which will be controlled by traffic signals.

The junction will provide a pedestrian crossing to enhance the safety of this access.

Moreover, Sainsbury's is also proposing the re-alignment and straightening of Swanpool Walk.

This would further enhance access to the proposed store for delivery vehicles, as well as for cars and pedestrians.

An exercise of the sort carried out on this occasion can have little value unless it takes these improvements into account.

Swanpool Walk is already used by large delivery vehicles servicing traders in St John's. Sainsbury's believes its proposals will be a significant improvement to this access route.

ALUN DAVIES,

Sainsbury's Property Company.

Footnote: Worcester City Council's technical services committee has voted to throw out Sainsbury's plans. The full council will meet next month to rubberstamp the decision.
