Evesham II 62pts,

Nuneaton Old Edwardians 0

NUNEATON is an apt name for the club whose second team didn't stop long enough for their post match meal at Evesham on Saturday.

But their lack of appetite wasn't much of a surprise when it was a close and hard match the last time the two met earlier in the season.

In the first quarter, Nuneaton's efforts worked well, recycling the ball effectively to push Evesham back into their own 22. However, solid defence on Evesham's part undid all the pressure leaving the visitors short of point scoring options.

A turnover in possession saw Evesham reverse the pressure, taking play back into Nuneaton territory.

At this point the difference between the teams became apparent as Evesham stepped up a gear, moving the ball wide quickly for No 8 Jim Moulton to crash over in the corner. Tim Carsberg converted.

Evesham's forwards now had the impetus and started to dominate the line-outs winning all of their own ball and 40 per cent of Nuneatons through the hands of second row Tim Webb.

Sustaining the pressure through the forwards led to further first half tries for scrum half Gary Diston and wing forward Julian French. The first half ended 17-0 in Evesham's favour.

Following the restart, Evesham took the match to an impressive level, showing great continuity and flair.

Prop Chris Maritza proved his matchless abilities in the loose, bouncing tacklers off left, right and centre. This style resulted in two heroic tries for the veteran front row.

Now with their tails up, Evesham started to move the ball through the back division, enabling more fluid passages of play ending in tries.

Centre Dave Summerfield barged over for one, fly-half Tim Carsberg mesmerised the defence for another, and winger James Maude and full-back Morris Parkinson darted in for their scores.
