Shipston: AT Shipston-on-Stour police court, George Humphries, a tramp, was charged with begging at Shipston on February 23. P.S Street proved the case. Defendant told a plausible story about his being an old soldier, and was about the country looking for work, and the Bench discharged him with a caution.

CAMPDEN: A Fire in the Night - Dutch Barn Burnt Out. At about 9.30pm on Wednesday a fire occurred at Battledean Farm near Campden station, the property of Mr WS Stanley. The maid at the farm was about to retire for the night when she heard a crackling sound. When she looked out she saw a big Dutch barn, containing 14 tons of straw, burning.

Cotswold: The proposed de-reservation of farmers and farm workers was criticised at the February meeting of the Winchcombe and Broadway NFU at the Winchcombe Town Hall on Friday evening. Mr John Bourne described the proposal as "just another of the misguided policies by a poor Government that cares little how the nation is fed, whether it is cold or warm, or about the daily difficulties or the flight from the pound." He added: "It is a most serious matter."

COTSWOLD: The erection of "Park Road" nameplates at Chipping Campden has angered those Campdonians who feel that the correct name for this thoroughfare is Watery Lane.
