A MALVERN woman was so fed up with crime on her estate, she made police arrest her to get away.

Lynda Parks had to endure threats and vandalism at her home in Brookside, off Gloucester Close.

After getting drunk and creating a din with her record player, she told police: "I want to be arrested."

The 53-year-old was yesterday handed a conditional discharge by Worcester Magistrates after she admitted being drunk and disorderly.

"There are windows being broken and drunks come round there all the time - that is why everyone moves away," said Parks, speaking after the hearing.

"It's so bad, that's why I got arrested. I wouldn't have done it otherwise. I can't wait to get out."

The court heard how police were called to Brookside at 3.15am on Saturday, January 27 following complaints about noise. Sally Hill, prosecuting, said Parks invited the officers into her home and agreed to turn the music down.

But police had to return 30 minutes later after fresh complaints and went to a neighbour who said Parks had been banging on the front door.

Parks was advised to go home to bed but demanded to talk to her neighbour while continuing to shout. She was then arrested.

Edward Gaynor-Smith, defending, said Parks was "extremely embarrassed" by the chain of events.

He said she was still grieving from the death of her partner last September, with whom she had lived for 13 years.

"From that point Mrs Parks says she took solace in alcohol rather than any other avenue, and became increasingly dependent," he said.

Neighbours

"Brookside is an area which has had trouble recently. Mrs Parks has had various problems with neighbours concerning criminal damage and also threats."

Mr Gaynor-Smith said: "She rather foolishly did not heed the police advice and thought, 'the only way I can get off here is if the police arrest me', which is rather silly."

Parks was given an absolute discharge for a bail offence, which she also admitted, and asked to pay £55 costs.
