A SCHEME to educate the public about car safety had a big impact in Kidderminster town centre. Tony Page gets a crash course in road safety with help from Kidderminster town centre beat manager PC Paul Green.

People turning up at the Wyre Forest Glades Arena were offered the chance to sample the experience of a seven mph collision in the "seat belt sledge" simulator on Tuesday thanks to the Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership.

PC Graham Cook was confident the message about wearing seat belts was getting across. He said: "It was a positive day.

"People using the simulator were amazed at the jolt of a seven mph impact."

It was the first time the simulator, which was set up on the Bromsgrove Street car park, had been brought to Kidderminster and PC Cook said there were plans to take it to other areas of the district.

Representatives of the fire service and Worcestershire county road safety team were also on hand during the day to offer advice about a range of road safety issues.
