DRIVERS have been warned that temporary traffic lights and a 10mph speed limit will be slowing down weekend traffic on the A449 near Kidderminster for six weeks.

A £64,000 project to install traffic signals began at Low Hill on Monday - and the Highways Agency has urged drivers to take extra care as "nose to tail" collisions are more likely to occur near road works.

The work will be carried out between 7pm and 7am on weekdays, but from 7am to 4.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Project manager Bob Bilbie said: "This safety work outside Kidderminster is designed to ease congestion and increase the efficiency of traffic flow on the A449.

"Drivers should stay well behind the vehicle in front, observe signs and allow extra time for journeys."
