SIZZLING Stourport inflicted only full-strength Kenilworth seconds' third defeat of the season with a solid 28-16 away win.

The Midlands Division One side were the strongest opposition Stourport have encountered all season.

It was a stern test for wingers Craig Baylis and Steve Yapp who came into the side for the first time and gave excellent displays.

Stourport kicked off into the wind and faced a tough opening quarter in defence.

But the visitors settled and pressure from their scrum gave them a platform to attack from.

Good running in the backs and fine work from the forwards resulted in a five-metre line-out and second-row Nick Firth drove over to score the first try, converted by fly-half Richard Dorrell.

Kenilworth hit straight back with an unconverted try to make the half-time score 5-7.

Stourport lifted the stakes in the second half and scored almost immediately with a push-over try by captain Andy Hubbold, converted by Dorrell.

Maintaining the pressure, the backs combined well to set Yapp away on the wing and he beat his man for an easy converson under the posts for Dorrell.

The game took a turn for the worse as Kenilworth spoiled play and a series of ugly incidents resulted in two Stourport players leaving the pitch.

With just 13 men, the home side took advantage and scored two tries and penalties.

The return of Firth from 10 minutes in the sin-bin for retaliation helped Stourport regain their shape. Full-back Toby Lee scored between the posts with Dorrell again converting to complete the scoring.
