FIREMEN in Evesham are encouraging householders to fit smoke alarms in their homes.
The campaign is being led by Paul Tredwell and John Lawrie of the Evesham station's White Watch.
They explained: "If we have an incident we go round and do a leaflet drop within the immediate vicinity. We then go back a week later and do a door knock to see if there is any help or further advice we can give householders.
"Smoke alarms give precious minutes of warning, which could help your family get out safely and they are cheap, simple to install and widely available."
Officers give free advice including home safety visits and will even fit alarms for the elderly, disabled or anyone unable to do it for themselves. In special circumstances, alarms can be supplied free.
