THE news in last week's Evesham Journal that Evesham United Football Club are once more resubmitting plans to move their ground to Cheltenham road is quite unbelievable.

It was fairly obvious that a substantial amount of people in this area did not want this ground built because of the danger of accidents caused by motorists and pedestrians gaining access to and from the facility on what must be one of Evesham's busiest junctions, and of course all the many many other objections on safety and green issues.

I am now amazed that the new proposals go far beyond the original plans submitted in that they now want parking for 500 cars and a Social Club! May I remind them and councillors that the original planning application did not call for any buildings and certainly not a club where people are going to be drinking and more than likely driving out on an extremely busy road!

So come on all you councillors who agreed in principle last time, you cannot agree to this facility purely on safety grounds and common sense.

But if you do, I hope when the first accident or fatality happens, which it will, you will have the courage to name yourselves as being the people responsible.

I suggest that any councillor who agrees to this scheme does not really care about Evesham or the first impression visitors will get on approaching the town, by what now is a very beautiful and unspoilt view. Let us stop this nonsense, the club should be looking for land that does not involve gaining access via a major trunk road, that is getting busier by the day, and on land that is not greenbelt.
