READING a letter from Cllr Russ Clayton about traffic calming in Broad Street and Crabtree Lane we felt we must mention that he and Trevor Porter (who was then a councillor) were contacted several years ago regarding road safety measures with respect to zigzag lines outside Meadows First School.

We also wrote to Cllr Cathy Mole but received no reply.

I believe some councillors attended the area concerned but we received no information from anyone on the outcome of their visit.

Having lived opposite the school for more than ten years I have witnessed many accidents and strongly believe that not only children's safety is at risk but also the passing public.

Over the last year we have been compiling a petition throughout the school getting parents, teachers and residents to sign, and we had a good response.

This petition was passed to John Fraser, at Worcestershire Highways Partnership in Bromsgrove, and Cllr Rita Dent.

On receiving this petition, action was taken quickly by Mr Fraser by assessing the situation. We were informed recently by telephone that the work was to be carried out in March this year.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank staff, parents and residents concerned for their support and Mr Fraser and Cllr Dent for their prompt action.

We also hope cars will stop parking outside the school.
