THE wind of change has swept through the Victoria Ground after Pat Bannister took control of Rovers last Tuesday.

OUT go caretaker boss Eric McManus and fitness coach Paul Madders, who both worked voluntarily. IN come Steve Daniels in charge of team affairs while Scotsman McManus stays involved with the club to help set up the Greens' youth academy with Derby County in June.

But Madders, a man who wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to Rovers, is out in the football wilderness -- for the time being at least.

The 38-year-old applied for the vacant managerial hot-seat following George Rooney's departure. He took on the role of fitness coach and introduced warm downs after every match, as well as pre-match morale-boosting pla-yer huddles. He was lucky to be alive after a life-threatening collision with a 32-ton lorry last month, but still helped out in training despite cracked ribs and a broken sturnum.

Talking about his departure, Madders confessed: "I took it very badly, I was very hurt. I loved that club to bits and in the six months I was there I've had nothing but happiness. I had a special rapport with the fans -- they sent me 11 get well cards after my car crash.

"No-one can understand how big the club is and I wish Steve Daniels and Pat Bannister all the best. There's no malice from my part."

Bannister agreed, saying: "Paul did a wonderful job for the club."

Madders introduced several players to the club including Michael Crawford, on international duty with St Kitts at present and Shaun Bedward, who may be on his way to Gresley Rovers after his mentors' departure.

Daniels, meanwhile, has brought former Greens player Kelvin Hamilton in as his right-hand man. Also on board are Wes Mole and Blakenall's Morgan Brooks, who along with Hamilton, is still eligible to play.

Daniels has signed Kevin Banner from Oldbury United and Indi Rai from Halesowen Harriers to bolster the team after Saturday's defeat at Solihull.

"The priority is to get team spirit up because morale is low at the moment," said Daniels. "We just need the fans to keep supporting us and not get on the players backs."
