REDDITCH Ladies Hockey Club are preparing for a make-or-break weekend of relegation battles.

The Bromsgrove Road side are languishing just above the relegation zone and face two of the bottom three sides.

Tamworth are the visitors on Saturday (3pm start) and the Ladies make the short trip to Woodrush High School to take on Pickwick in a rearranged fixture on Sunday (12.30pm start).

Shot-shy Redditch came unstuck again on Saturday after wasting numerous chances, including 12 short corners, in a last gasp 2-1 loss to Bridgnorth.

"They scored in the second minute of injury time but we had enough chances to have been out of sight in the first twenty minutes," said Ladies captain Angela Taylor.

"It was a match we wanted to win but we've had trouble hitting the back of the net all season."

The weekend double header has assumed more importance with the likelihood of three teams facing the drop.

The three leagues feeding Redditch's division are all propped up by West Midland teams and if they drop there will be a knock-on effect.

Fifth from bottom Redditch are two points clear of the drop zone but a loss on Saturday would see Tamworth leapfrog the Ladies, who could be dragged in to the bottom three if Bridgnorth pick up a point.

Second from bottom Pickwick are four points behind Redditch with three points for a win.

Taylor is without forward Amanda Burchill (work commitments) and midfielder Suzette Davenport for Saturday but Burchill hopes to return on Sunday.
