DROITWICH claimed two vital league points on Saturday with a fine display against their local rivals.

This was a victory that keeps the Spa side's promotion hopes alive.

In fine conditions both sides started well, although it was Droitwich who conceded a number of early penalties that went unpunished by Pershore.

Droitwich got their act together and began making some good attacking moves. The back row of Andrews, Perry and Godfrey drove at the opposition to set up good possession for the backs. It was pressure like this that saw Pershore infringe to enable Matt Blackmore the chance to kick two penalties.

Sascha Hobbs's running from the back was a constant threat, and it was after good back play that the ball went to Jamie Faulkener who set off on a blistering run to beat several defenders to score in the corner. Blackmore added the difficult conversion. The second half saw Pershore start brightly and score an unconverted try.

In the balance

The game was now in the balance, but the Droitwich forwards stepped up a gear and ensured they won plenty of possession for their backs.

Blackmore added another penalty, and outside half Simon Mountjoy kicked an excellent drop goal to seal a crucial victory for the home side.
