YEARS of campaigning to improve a neglected plot of land in Droitwich have paid off.
Droitwich Spa Town Council is now responsible for land off Primsland Way after taking over the site from Barratt West Midlands.
At a meeting on Monday, members agreed to call in a Worcestershire County Council conservation expert to survey the area.
Town councillor Eileen Hope (Con, Droit.South) said: "Residents look set to get a shop they don't want, so if we don't get this done, they will lose confidence in us.
"We've waited 20 years for this opportunity - let's get it right."
As part of the agreement Primsland Estates Ltd, which is awaiting consent to build a convenience store on part of the plot, has given £10,000 towards maintenance costs.
