PLEAS to build a skatepark in Droitwich Spa were expected to be made to community leaders last night.

Marie Moule, of Highfield Close, has collected more than 750 signatures from people who want improved amenities for town youngsters.

At a Wychavon District Council meeting yesterday, Cllr Roy Seabourne (Lab, Droit.West) planned to pass the petition to members.

He wants Wychavon to accept alternative budget proposals submitted by Labour and Liberal Democrat members.

Cllr Seabourne told the Advertiser: "We would raise tax by 4.5 per cent because we don't believe Wychavon can meet its commitments at 2.5 per cent.

"Our budget includes funds to keep the Lido open, cash for a skatepark and a subsidised car parking scheme for shoppers."

Cllr Seabourne praised Mrs Moule, who has a 15-year-old son with a passion for skateboarding, for starting the petition.

Cllr Eileen Hope (Con, Droit.South) said: "I have sympathy for parents and young people.

"The problem is finding a site where youngsters can enjoy their hobby safely, without interfering with residents.

"We don't want a repeat of the problems faced at the Lido Park."
