TRY picking a Rovers man of the match when no-one plays well. It's a tough task.

On Saturday, Grant Beckett took the award for the second match running.

Not because he actually played well, but because he was the best of a bad bunch.

It was that depressing. No-one can fault any of the players for their workrate, they were just not in the same class as their opponents on the day.

With off-the-field activity at an all-time high, who could blame them if their minds weren't focused on the task in hand.

Director of football Steve Daniels took charge of team affairs on Saturday following Eric McManus and Paul Madders' departure.

But there was little continuity in either tactics or selection.

In came Elliot Morris between the sticks, a Northern Ireland under-18 international signed on a month's loan from West Bromwich Albion.

He was drafted in after both Nore Gabbidon and Neil Olden had failed to convince in goal this season.

But it was two goalkeeping blunders from the debutant that handed Solihull a comfortable win in the end.

He gifted Borough the lead after 31 minutes when his attempted clearance fell straight into the path of Solihull's Simon Hollis, who directed the ball, perfectly back over the 'keeper's head.

The home side doubled their lead seven minutes after the break with a flowing move which exposed the consistent vulnerabilities in Bromsgrove's back line.

Former Rovers man Craig Dutton fed substitute Brian Gray and he laid a perfect ball into the path of dangerman Hollis, who kept his composure to rattle the ball under Morris' body. It was a firm shot unleashed at pace but the new boy should have done better with a shot which went straight at his midriff.

Rovers had little to shout about and it was only the introduction of Dean Wright and an improved second half display by Richard Burgess that gave hope to the depressed travelling fans.

Sadly, the final scoreline reflected the overall display from a Bromsgrove side in disarray. After the drubbing suffered against Weston the week before, there was little to suggest they can pull themselves out of the relegation dogfight.

Rovers: Morris, Miley (sub D Wright 76 mins), Hughes (sub Rowe 69 mins), Townsend, S Frost, Ulfig, Nicholls, Yates, Burgess, Jefferson, Beckett.

Attendance: 285.
