KINGS Norton recorded their first league win of the season on Saturday at the twelfth time of asking.

And the Hopwood-based side went from minus six points to zero after league officials reduced a fine for fielding an ineligible player.

Kings were fined six points after playing unregistered scrum half Aidan Brennan in three matches before Christmas.

Although Norton lost all three, the club was fined two points for each fixture.

But league bosses admitted they had not informed the club immediately after Brennan's first appearance, in line with disciplinary procedure, because someone was holiday.

They accepted Norton's argument they would not have played Brennan in two further fixtures if they knew of his ineligibility and the fine was reduced to two points.

And with Saturday's timely 18-16 win over Bedworth, Kings Norton wiped out the deficit.

Stand off Pete May, centres John Hefford and Ian Jackson and openside flanker James Norman all returned to the fray after missing a 40-12 friendly defeat to Midlands West Four South outfit Droitwich.

The win boosted morale but left the Ash Lane side two points adrift of second from bottom Evesham and 11 from safety with four league matches to go.

Kings host Birmingham Medics in a friendly on Saturday (ko 2.30pm) with stand off Lee Eldridge hoping to return after a calf strain and second row Chris Handy available after work commitments.

But stand off Chris Waudby's season could be over after a serious knee injury.
