A NEW park and ride system has been planned in Wythall by Birmingham City Council to reduce the levels of traffic going into the city.

But the new system has angered residents and parish councillors because the proposed site, between the Hollywood Bypass and the Alcester Road, is on green belt land.

A public inquiry into the site was taking place at Bromsgrove Council but was adjourned because of new evidence from the Council for the Protection of Rural England which arrived on the last day. It will start again at the end of March.

Head of Local Plans, Paul Crysell said: "There is a great deal of government support for encouraging people out of their cars altogether and if they can prove the fact that there will be less cars travelling into Birmingham plans could go ahead."
