THE two top teams in the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis League both had fairly easy wins last week, the Lickey Monarchs team of Eric Hardman, Steve Mullard and Ian Davis were much too strong for Droitwich A, winning 10-0.

Newton Works A, the other title contenders, found it more difficult against Himbleton A, only winning 8-2. Brian Belcher did the best for Newton, winning all his games. Chris Maiden and Michael Kendall also had two wins each and then joined up to win the doubles. Adam Throssell had a great night for Himbleton, winning two of his three games.

Newton Works B had their best result of the season when they drew at home to Astwood Bank 5-5. For the Bank, Jim Connor was in tremendous form, winning his three games with Dave Wood and Pete Kelly getting one each.

Alan Hall did the best for Newton, winning two, with Gary Jackson and John Hunt getting one each. This meant it was 5-4 to the Bank with the doubles to play, but Newton's Gary and Alan beat Jim and Dave 21-17, 21-18 to get the draw.

Barnt Green A just got home 6-4 away to Hillcrest A. Danny Holdsworth starred for the Green, winning his three games. Mark Cornish got two wins and Dave Stuckey one. For Hillcrest, Graeme Farrell had two wins and Alan McLoughlin one and then teamed up to win the doubles for their four victories.

In Division Two, the local derby between Studley Road Terriers and Studley Road Nomads ended in a 6-4 win to the Nomads.

Terriers, who were without their captain John Dignum, got their four wins through Steve Gascoigne (two), Pete Hartles and Steve Demercardo. Bernard Leech had a great night, winning his three games. He was well backed up by Jeff Lines who won two. They then teamed up to win the doubles.

Barnt Green Hornets at home to Lickey Panthers had to win the doubles to get a 5-5 draw. Ian Anderson did best for the Hornets winning two games, with Ivor Anderson and Paul Grigg getting one each. For Lickey, Geoff Unitt won his three games, John Dale getting the other two.

Barnt Green B beat Hillcrest B 7-3. Winners for Barnt Green were Steve Hore (three), Jason McFaul and Jim McGuire with two each.

Graeme Farrell got two wins for Hillcrest and then teamed up with Terry Pountney to win the doubles.

Another local game between Droitwich B and Droitwich C saw the B team win 7-3.

Simon Tibke and Phillip Harris both won three games for the B team, with Mike Perrott getting the other. Dave Watson and Luke Wozniak got one each for the C team and they got together to win the doubles.
