DROITWICH Spa's Robin Dale is confident he will emerge as a front-runner in this year's Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup.

The 36-year-old, managing director of a motor insurance claims company, steadily improved with each round in last year's Clio Cup until a 100mph crash at Donnington Park blunted his progress.

However, he firmly believes he can capitalise on what he learned in 2000 and begin to feature in the top half of the field.

"Top ten results are a realistic aim this year," he said. "I'd only got one full season of racing under my belt before last year, but gradually kept getting higher and higher on the grid. Now I have a lot more experience and confidence so hope to improve on my results from last season."

Dale's car will once again be prepared by Steve Smith's expertly-run Motorsport Engineering team from its workshops in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, carrying sponsorship from Jeffrey Green Russell Solicitors and Saxon Computers.
