FURTHER to Mr R G Spencer's informative letter (Evening News, December 13), from recently declassified American government documents, we learn that the US Spy Agency ran a campaign in the 1950s and 1960s to build momentum for a united Europe. It funded the European federalist movement.

Washington's main tool for shaping the European agenda was the American Committee for a United European Parliament.

The US State Department memo from the European Section dated June 11, 1965 to the Vice-President of the European Parliament Economic Community advised him to pursue monetary union by stealth.

It recommended suppressing debate until the point at which "adoption of such proposals would become virtually inescapable".

Fellow Britons, you are witnessing our great nation being pushed into a totalitarian Soviet-type European Federal State, without a mandate, run by unelected commissars, who are busy shackling us with mountains of debt, ruined industries and loss of freedom.

Let us all work to regain our sovereignty, with a supreme accountable Westminster Parliament of MPs who will put the interests of the British people first.

E W CARR,

Malvern.
