YOUR recent report about the attacks on graves at Bromsgrove cemetery presents a disturbing picture.

The distress caused to those whose loved one's graves have been desecrated is of concern to everyone and all possible steps should be taken by the authorities to prevent a repetition.

Of equal concern is the attitude of Bromsgrove District Council to the public. When telephoned by a relative of someone whose grave had been damaged and who wished to discuss security concerns, a member of the council's staff is reported as giving short shrift and saying: "I have no reason to discuss this with the public."

Is this the way to speak to a distressed family?

It is all too typical of the high handed manner in which members of the public are treated at the Council House.

I know of a number of instances when staff have been unhelpful and downright discourteous.

The cost of employing these civil servants is borne by taxpayers who are entitled to receive proper respect, especially when, as in the case quoted, compassion should have been shown.

Our district councillors are elected to run the council on our behalf. They should control their staff and instruct them to behave properly.
