REDDITCH United hammered Bromsgrove Rovers 4-0 in the Dr Mar-tens League Western Di-vision at the Victoria Ground last night.

And how the travelling army of United fans loved it, sentencing their local rivals to a tenth consecu-tive league defeat.

Rovers were in with a shout of getting some-thing out of the game at the break, with Matt Hall's fifth minute goal separating the sides at the interval.

But Redditch ran riot in the second half as Paul Danks added a second and Adam Nicholls and Martin Myers completed the formalities.

Rovers keeper Nore Gabbidon was at fault for the opening goal which handed Redditch the ini-tiative. He spilled a rou-tine save from Karl Bren-nan straight into the path of Hall who finished with ease.

Rovers were stunned but made a fight of it, and forced a number of cor-ners in a bid to get back into the game.

Mark Benbow, Michael Crawford and Richard Burgess all spurned half-chances, while Hall was guilty of a glaring miss with the goal at his mercy just before the break. Rovers skipper Quentin Townsend made two timely blocks when Danks could have doubled Red-ditch's lead.

If the first half was a close affair, the second period was anything but.

United poured forward in numbers, their pass and move football run-ning rings around their beleaguered opponents.

Just six minutes of the second half had gone when Gabbidon saved well from Scott Colcome's pile driver but deadly Danks was on hand to fol-low up the rebound.

Craig Pountney came on for Steve Frost as Rovers tried in vain to get some-thing from the match, but it was as good as over with 20 minutes left.

Adam Nicholls picked the ball up on the edge of the area, made space for himself and drilled a firm effort under Gabbidon to leave lacklustre Bromsgrove with a moun-tain to climb.

Three minutes later Myers capped a virtuoso performance in the mid-dle of the park with a 25-yard piledriver which screamed past Gabbidon.

Burgess had a late chance to grab a consola-tion with five minutes remaining but he couldn't find the target from an acute angle after round-ing Dave Adey.
