WORCESTER City's loan signing Allan Davies believes his new club has every chance of getting into the thick of the title race.

And the 28-year-old right-back, on a month's loan from title favourites Burton Albion, hopes to have a big say in that during his spell at St George's Lane.

He still hopes Burton will go on and win the league but says the festive period will be crucial to all potential challengers, including City.

Davies said: "Everybody's aim is to win the league and I don't think they (Burton) will have a better chance this year.

"But one thing about this league is that there is nothing much between the top 10 sides. To be fair to Burton they have a bit more than anyone else but, after that, I don't think there is much difference.

"Anyone who puts a run together, especially over the Christmas period, has every chance of pushing Burton."

The former Manchester City apprentice, who is in his testimonial year at Burton having made almost 450 appearances for them, recently lost his place at Eton Park.

But he was pleased to come to Worcester and get some competitive action under his former Burton boss John Barton.

"From Burton's point of view I am not playing in the first team and they want me to go out and get competitive games. John has injury problems here so it was an obvious move.

"I have always got on well with John and wherever he has been as a manager, he has had a good track record."

Davies says the chances of making his move permanent are unlikely. "The thing with Burton is that they are in a strong position and they don't need to sell players or get players off the wage bill. You are not going to go on and win the title with only 13 or 14 players."

Having shone on his debut in last week's win over Ilkeston, he now hopes to carry on in the same vein for the rest of his loan spell.

"There are another five or six games to go. Hopefully it will be a successful five or six games and we will see where it goes from there."
