STAFF at Kidderminster's largest company are to raise their concerns about the impending parking crisis in the town.

Workers at carpet giant Brintons, Exchange Street, are among those likely to be worst hit when the effects of the loss of more than 1,200 parking spaces kick in.

They are particularly aggrieved at the loss of the nearby Market Street multi-storey car park, which will be demolished in March to make way for the relocation of Kidderminster College.

However, Wyre Forest District Council head of cultural, leisure and commercial services Andrew Dickens has agreed to meet staff on January 9 to explain options being considered by the council to soften the parking blow.

Leader Councillor Mike Oborski said the council was still putting together a final package of detailed proposals to tackle the problem.

He added: "We are looking for extra short-term spaces and investigating the possibility of park and ride schemes into the town centre in readiness for our January meeting."

Other parking spaces will be lost when the Pitts Lane multi-storey is demolished to make way for phase one of the KTC1 redevelopment, and next month season tickets for the Swan Centre park are to be scrapped.
