OBJECTORS to a scheme to build a waste incinerator in Kiddermin-ster have been told they have an extended deadline to inspect information on the environmental impact of the plan.

But news there will be an extra week until January 19 to examine technical reports on air quality, traffic impact, noise, contamination, landscape effects and ecological impact that went on public display from last Wednesday, has failed to quell anger among Stop Kidderminster Incinerator campaigners.

The six reports are the consultants' studies on which Mercia Waste Management company and operators Severn Waste Services have based arguments that a £40 million waste-to-energy burner at Stourport Road would be safe and would not cause environmental problems.

But SKI is calling for more time for people to study the papers.

Campaigners are angered the reports have been made available five weeks after Worcestershire County Council received the planning application and put it on show for public scrutiny.

They point out some people will have submitted views to the county planning committee without seeing "vital" technical documents.

SKI campaigner Bob Harris said: "Extending the viewing period from the January 12 to January 19 is totally unacceptable. This already includes five days in which one place for viewing the documents, the district council office at Land Oak, will be closed over Christmas. Our view is that the whole situation is deplorable."

l The Environment Agency is inviting comments from the public by February 16 on an application for an Integrated Pollution Prevention Control permit from Mercia Waste Management.

The dates of public meetings on this application will be announced in January and comments should be sent to The Environment Agency, Foley House, 123 Stourport Road, Kidderminster DY11 7BW.
