WITNESSES are being urged to step forward by detectives investigating a stabbing outside a Worcester nightspot.

The 22-year-old victim was injured during a fight in an alleyway opposite Tramps Nightclub in Angel Place just after 3am on Christmas Eve.

Detectives said his injuries "could have been fatal" and that the man, from Pershore, spent Christmas Day in intensive care with a stomach wound.

He was now recovering at home today.

"This attack could easily have proved fatal," said DC Pete Morgan.

"There were a lot of people about at the time, many of whom would have seen the victim immediately after the stabbing.

"I'm particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the fight itself or who has any information that would assist us in our inquiries."

Anyone with information can call Det Con Morgan, either on 01905 723888 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.

A man arrested in connection with the stabbing has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm.

He appeared before Worcester magistrates yesterday, when he was granted conditional bail.
