I SEE in the Worcestershire Beacon that the county council is looking for volunteer cycling instructors but "they don't even have to be able to cycle", said County Road Safety Officer Roger Woodward.

Does anybody know any other skill being taught by someone who hasn't done it themselves? I'm sure there are lots of cyclists who'd like to teach car drivers to drive safely, but would car drivers accept that?

Don't be silly, Mr Woodward. Utililise experienced people who know what they're talking about. It's crucial that cyclists learn from people who know first-hand the real dangers associated with riding around today's streets.

There are subtle and life-saving skills which are totally invisible to those cocooned in metal boxes unaware of the heart-stopping moments they create day in, day out, by poor driving.

Don't put cyclists' lives at risk, Mr Road Safety Officer. Do the job properly.
