A CHARITY which supports families with low incomes has withdrawn its services from the town after it was revealed it was acting against rules set down for registered charities.
The Attics Furniture Project, which previously served Bromsgrove and Redditch, takes items of furniture donated by the public and distributes them to people who would otherwise be unable to afford them.
The future of the charity's Redditch service hung in the balance earlier this year after thieves stole the vehicle used to transport furniture items.
A spokesman for the charity claimed at the time that despite receiving no funding from Redditch, there was much more need for the service here than in Bromsgrove.
After the theft, the project got back on its feet only to withdraw its services from Redditch months later.
Project chairman Kevin McNamara said: We wanted to change the status of the project and when our solicitors looked into the matter we discovered that we should not actually have been offering the service in Redditch.
The rules state we should only have been serving Bromsgrove and district and not Redditch.
We were breaking the rules so we had to withdraw the service from the town from then on.
