RANGERS travelled to the Worcester YMCA ground on Saturday for this Worcester League Saturday Premier Division fixture without the services of captain Clive Churchill (chipped ankle bone sustained in training), Mick Lowe, Steve Rawlings and Brendon Watson all working.

CROWN & ANCHOR 1, MALVERN RANGERS 4

Referee Les Seal passed the pitch fit to play and whilst it was very heavy down the middle, his decision was undoubtedly the correct one.

Within three minutes of the kick off Simon Rea carried on where he left off last week by latching onto a through ball from Gerald Allen rounded keeper Philip Bretherton to open the scoring. Just two minutes later and it was 2-0 Mark White won the ball in midfield, played it through to Lee Brookes who laid it into the path of Roger Kitchener who scored in off the keeper. From then until 20 minutes into the second half Rangers missed so many chances, coupled with a few decent saves by keeper Bretherton that they are too numerous to mention.

Twenty minutes into the second half goal number three finally arrived when Roger Kitchener played the ball into the path of Lee Brookes who scored inside the near post.

After 31 minutes Marc Kitchener, a first half substitute for the injured Simon Rea, combined with dad, Roger who supplied the pass for Lee Brookes to again round the keeper and score left foot into the net.

With just two minutes remaining the home side scored a consolation goal when substitute Stephen Holmes picked up the ball a good 40 yards out, waltzed past at least three half-hearted challenges to score in off keeper Phil Birch who must have been frozen in his boots with the lack of activity he had to endure through the 90 minutes.

It is no exaggeration to say that Rangers should have at least doubled the score, but in reality only one side has managed to score five goals against Crown & Anchor so far this season.

Special mention should be made of Gerald Allen and John Rooney for their tireless work in the centre of midfield trudging through the ever sapping muddy conditions. Narrowly however from Mark White, Roger Kitchener was voted man of the match for the succession of right wing crosses that he made, especially in the second half.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Rangers, sponsored by The Three Horseshoes, are scheduled to entertain Perrywood, weather permitting in a Premier Division fixture. Kick off 2.15pm, meet Victoria Playing fields 1.30pm.
