Archive footage of railway lines at Upton-upon-Severn and Ripple feature in a new video of steam trains released this week.

The Midland Railway Through Worcestershire is the fifth in a series of 20 planned videos of UK railways in the 1960s.

It is made by local steam train enthusiast Michael Clemens, whose electrical chain includes shops in Malvern, Upton-upon-Severn and Barnards Green.

Filmed both from the trains and at the trackside, it covers four old Midland routes: the main line from Birmingham, via Lickey Bank, Bromsgrove, Defford, Eckington, and Bredon, to Ashchurch; the branch line from Longbridge to Halesowen, which closed in 1964; the loop line from Redditch, via Alcester and Evesham, to Ashchurch; The branch line from Ashchurch to Tewkesbury and Upton, which closed to passengers in 1961.

Originally this latter line continued on to Malvern but the branch was cut back to Upton in 1952.

The video contains a sequence of shots taken on the last day on which a passenger service ran - August 12, 1961 - when many locals turned out to bid farewell to the Old Midland Railway which had served them for nearly a 100 years.

The hour-long video is filmed mainly in colour and is backed by an authentic soundtrack of the locomotives featured.

This latest release is taken from a massive archive of film footage, photographs and even tape recordings taken by Mr Clemens and his late father, Jim, in the late 50s and early 60s, which are now stored digitally.

These nostalgic views of now long- closed railway lines and the locomotives that worked them, cover the majority of the country from Penzance to Inverness.

"Nostalgia seems to be big these days," said Mr Clemens. "Interest in steam railways is on the increase. We have sold thousands of copies of the first four videos and receive orders from young and old alike. Present problems aside, I can see a resurgence of interest in railways as a whole as old branch lines are reopened and second track is replaced along many main lines."

Mr Clemens can be seen in a eight railway programmes currently being broadcast on the welsh Channel SC4, which he is hoping may be shown across the UK in the future.

Copies of the video are available at £19.99 from Wireless Supply Ltd, 12 High Street, Pershore, WR10 1BG, or by telephoning 01386 552069.
