WYRE Forest schools are sharing in Worcestershire's celebrations over the latest successes in primary and middle school results for 11-year-olds.

The district's 13 qualifying schools in the national league tables produced improved performances in the core subjects of maths, English and science since 1997 in line with the county trend.

Among schools enjoying individual triumphs were Burlish Middle School, Stourport. Headteacher Jo Tindall was "delighted" to see a big hike in results over three years with 68 per cent of pupils now achieving Level 4 in English, 70 per cent in maths and 88 per cent in science.

Top of the Wyre Forest league for aggregate results was St Wulstan's Primary School, Stourport, with 275 points.

Pupils gained 94 per cent in English, 88 per cent in maths and 94 per cent in science.

The next highest in Wyre Forest was Comberton Middle School with 240 and St Anne's, Bewdley 238.

Other middle school results were: Burlish 228; St John's, Kidderminster 226; Wribbenhall 225, Sion Hill, 218; Windmill, Stourport 215; Franche 203; Sladen 190; Lickhill 184; Birchen Coppice 127.

Bayton Primary School recorded 221 and Kidderminster's St Ambrose Primary School was at 200 points.

Although Kidderminster's Birchen Coppice Middle School was at the bottom of the county league, its total of 127 was 10 down on last year but still well up on its 75 two years ago.
