I am writing regarding the alarming fall in crowds at Kidderminster Harriers F.C. An open message to all supporters who came on the first game of the season against Torquay United - where are you now?

It seems the people of Wyre Forest do not really care about the fact we have a Football League team in our district.

Surely last year's superb effort by Jan Molby and the lads, not forgetting the vital backing of chairman Lionel Newton, should at least be rewarded by an increased number of spectators at matches.

Too many people are quick to jump on the bandwagon when we are winning and call themselves "fans", but when things start to not always go the Harriers way they soon abandon ship.

What did you expect? We were not realistically going to storm to the top of Division Three straight away.

Saturday's FA Cup attendance against Carlisle was often surpassed last season in the Conference - Saturday was the FA Cup second round and a game like that last season would have probably drawn 4,000-plus people.

Lionel Newton has given a stark warning about what this lack of support could mean. To lose the backing of a man such as Mr Newton would mean Kidderminster Harriers would end up back where they were.

Everyone associated with the club has worked incredibly hard for years and years to make us a respected and extremely well-run professional club.

It would be a travesty if all this hard work was thrown back in their face by the people of this district. We are the only league club in Worcestershire and deserve better support.

If that support is not given, we could well find ourselves residing with Worcester City in a few seasons.

Switch off Sky Sports, get out of the armchair, come to Aggborough and support your local team!
