MALVERN Rugby Club face another test of their title credentials when Bromsgrove visit Spring Lane on Saturday for the game of the day.

The Midlands Two West league leaders are in a rich vein of form after seeing off the challenge of Luctonians at the weekend and go into the clash high on confidence.

However, Bromsgrove are the only side this season to have taken points off Rudy Smith's outfit when they drew 13-13 with them at Finstall Park last month.

And manager Colin Cornelius believes his men could spring a surprise as Malvern unveil their new clubhouse and pitch on Saturday.

He said: "All the players are up for the match and we go into it in confident mood because we know we can compete with them.

"Realistically if we want to win the league, we have to go there and win to cut the gap but it is not going to be easy that's for sure."

Bromsgrove finished runners-up to Malvern in last year's championship race but have been off the title trail until recently. They are now unbeaten in seven league matches and can narrow the points difference between them and the leaders to three points with a victory at the weekend.

Cornelius added: "We're doing OK at the moment. The game with Malvern last month was very tight and we were leading for a while in the game. We know we can give them a good game but it will be very difficult to go there and win on their patch."

Luctonians had proved to be Malvern's closest title rivals until Saturday's 6-3 defeat but Cornelius believes his side realistically can only hope for second spot this season.

"I think it is unrealistic to think that Bromsgrove and Luctonians will pip Malvern to the title because they are the strongest club in the league.

"However, we will push them all the way and certainly hope to come away from there with the points on Saturday."
