THE redevelopment of the Kidderminster town centre has been in the planning for many years.

Wyre Forest District Council, together with its various partners, has been working towards a comprehensive shopping development to include leisure facilities such as a new cinema and arts centre.

I was personally involved in the pulling together of the leisure side of things as a past chairman of the leisure services.

Organisations such as the Nonentities, Wyre Forest Arts Forum, Kidder-minster College and others, worked tirelessly to reach a stage two years ago when a start was due to be made on the site.

All of a sudden we get two years of stagnation.

From a situation where the council, and more importantly the people of Wyre Forest, have the prospect of a vibrant, exciting new town centre in Kidderminster, we now hear that the guts have been ripped out of the scheme.

The present administration on Wyre Forest - ie Health Concern councillors - together with the Conservatives and others, will leave a legacy to future generations that can never be put right.

We only get one shot at such a development.

They have lost us our cinema. They have lost us our arts centre, and that is only one project.

What other disasters are they go-ing to spring on us?
