TEN games unbeaten, a top of the table clash and Evesham's last win saw them defeat MUFC. Now, that's surely a recipe for the town's public to come to Common Road on Saturday.

Admittedly, the MUFC was Mangots-field United, but the Bristol-based side had remained undefeated for 14 Western Division games and not conceded a goal for five matches before Phil Mullen's men ended the sole surviving unbeaten record in the Dr Martens League.

A paltry 1,523 supporters have attended United's 11 home games this season, with just two attendances topping the 200-mark.

The players, management and club officials deserve to see an increase in what amount to pathetic figures for a side that has made great strides during the past 12 months and could go top of the table this weekend.

The scenes of jubilation at the final whistle at Cossham Street last Saturday spoke volumes for the commitment the players are putting in and the way the "faithful" following of around 30 appreciated their efforts.

It's the second successive game that the players have been given a rousing reception at the finish - a third would see Mullen's charges surely cement their right to be in the shake-up at the end of the season.

The leading quartet have opened up an eight-point gap on a chasing pack led by Redditch, who scored twice in the last five minutes to defeat Tiverton, who scored even later.

Another late brace denied Bilston a maximum haul at home to Rocester, who scored an equaliser four minutes from time after Scott Voice had made it 3-2 to the hosts.

It was Voice's 12th goal in the league this term and he scored the winner when Bilston visited Common Road for a League Cup tie in September.

After exacting revenge over Gloucester in their last home outing, it would be nice to think the Robins could make up for another reverse and inflict on Bilston only their second league defeat.

So, forget the Christmas shopping, United could go top of the tree and, like Santa Claus, if you only visit once a year, then make it to Common Road on Saturday for what promises to be a real festive treat.

The game is being sponsored by T & P Davies, Scaffolding Ltd, Evesham and the ball by Aircell Communications, High Street, Evesham.

United's visit to Tiverton will now take place on Wednesday, February 21.
