A TEENAGER was so intimidated by a gang he agreed to watch out for them as they broke into a car, Worcester magistrates were told.

Russell Fensom admitted to police he had "kept watch" while others broke into a Honda Shuttle parked in Ombersley Road West, Droitwich, on Sunday, March 26.

A Pioneer stereo, change and food with a total value of £347 was taken from the vehicle.

Fensom, who admitted theft, told officers he was involved in the crime, which also caused £600 damage to the vehicle.

But Barrie Newton, defending, said the 18-year-old had fallen under the influence of other youngsters with criminal reputations and convictions.

Influence

"In very many circumstances people do become offenders when they fall under the influence of others," he said.

"My client has no previous convictions before March, this year, and the trauma of being in court is not lost on him.

"He had repeated and unwelcome visits from these undesirables which have resulted in him losing two jobs and has had an influence on his health," added Mr Newton.

"It all comes down to fear."

Fensom, of School Lane, Cutnall Green, near Droitwich, was fined £60 and ordered to pay £100 compensation, and £55 court costs.
