November 25, 1950

AN oak table which has been placed in the Redditch Parish Church in memory of the late Mr Charles White, 3 Church Green East, Redditch, who was scout master of the Redditch (St Stephen's) Troop for 25 years, was dedicated by vicar (Rev JC Williams) on Sunday.

The table in oak has a commemorative tablet attached and was subscribed to by former members and friends of the troop.

It was presented to the church by Mr Colin Bartleet, Alvechurch, and unveiled by Mr W B Higgins, Alvechurch (district commissioner) in the absence of Col Sir William Wiggin.

Mr Bartleet claims to be the first scout in Redditch and tells how in 1911 he and Mr Frank Harries saved pennies to buy "Scouting for Boys" by "BP".

They held their first meetings under a lamp in Other Road. Mr White became scout master about 1913.
