CONGRATULATIONS on your superb coverage of this year's flood disaster - if things become much worse we will soon need a hose pipe ban!

Your editorial on Saturday, November 4 "The good lesson that went missing" was harsh on teachers in Worcestershire, the great majority of whom struggled to get either into their own school or to a local school and to maintain continuity in our service during the difficult days.

I hope you will allow me to put the record straight. Despite the transport disruption the disappearance of buses, taxis and mini buses, the power cuts, flooded boilers and kitchens, the service did in fact keep running and very few schools had to be closed completely or for long.

Through your correspondence column I would like to thank headteachers, teachers and support staff for their professionalism and parents for their patience.

JULIEN KRAMER,

Director of Educational Services.
