WORCESTER'S flood levels are recorded on the Cathedral Water Gate. These do not give the correct heights for north of the bridge.
In the 1947 floods, the level on the north side was 1ft 1in (330mm) higher than the south. This was measured with great difficulty but verified when the flood receded by viewing the watermark under the bridge.
At the waterworks road end of Pitchcroft, only the tips of the highest rails could just be seen in 1947.
