AFTER a good West win last week Colwall Women's Hockey Club unfortunately continued their indifferent form against Cornish side, St Austell.

COLWALL WHC 1, ST AUSTELL 2

Colwall started the match in confident mood by taking the initiative and creating the early chances. Fifteen minutes of good attacking hockey was nearly rewarded when a strike across the St Austell goal hit the post.

Great driving play from Polly Bounds and Karen Hackley caused havoc in the St Austell defence but still they could not convert their chances. Despite earning several penalty corners the Herefordshire side could still not open the scoring.

A quick break away by the St Austell midfield caught the Colwall defence sleeping which ultimately resulted in a goal from the visiting side. With the score at 1--0 Colwall continued to press forward and strive for an equaliser. With just minutes to go before the break a cross from Karen Hackley was deflected into the net by Jackie Styles.

Colwall continued to make some good chances during the second half with another shot hitting the post. Colwall thought they had taken the lead after a penalty corner was converted by Jackie Styles but was controversially disallowed. This seemed to affect the Herefordshire side's concentration and St Austell made the most of the situation and scored quickly to make it 2-1. With minutes remaining Colwall continued to create opportunities but the Cornish side held on.

Colwall travel to Swindon tomorrow (Saturday).
